The Power Behind the Heat
Putting 1000W into a 455mm stretch gives you a seriously concentrated heat footprint. Since they run on 230V, you can just plug them straight into your industrial grid. You won’t have to deal with those clunky, heavy step-down transformers. But here is the real secret: the short wave spectrum. Instead of just heating up the air around your part, the energy shoots in a straight line and sinks right into the surface of the material. It’s much more efficient because you aren’t losing all your heat to the gap between the lamp and the workpiece.
Quartz and Halogen (The Build)
We use high-purity quartz glass to hold the tungsten filament. It has to be quartz because the internal pressure and heat inside these tubes are intense. The halogen gas inside keeps the filament from evaporating too fast, which means the lamp lasts longer and the light stays steady. One big warning, though. Please, use gloves. Always. If you touch the quartz with your bare hands, the oils from your skin stay on the glass. When the lamp heats up, those oil spots become “hot spots.” That’s how you get a cracked tube or a burnt-out filament way before its time.
Real-World Use and a Few Tips
You’ll see these used everywhere—PET bottle blowing, plastic welding, or curing paint on cars. They’re great drop-in replacements. But because 1000W is a lot of raw power, you’ve got to get your reflectors right. If your reflectors are cheap or poorly angled, they’ll bounce that heat right back into the lamp housing. Before you know it, your sockets are overheating. Double-check your cooling fans, too. Make sure they can handle the heat load, or you might find your wiring melting. Not a great look.
