The nitty-gritty on power We used an SK15 connector because nothing is more annoying than a flickering lamp or a premature burnout caused by a sloppy electrical connection. These things run hot—really hot—to get those clear coats to set fast. But a word of warning: that kind of heat is aggressive. If your reflector is dirty or pitted, you’re going to get hot spots. And hot spots mean blistered paint. Keep your gear clean. Why the “Ruby” and Carbon? That red tint isn’t for looks. It’s a specific coating that filters the light to optimize the short-wave IR output. As for the carbon in the filament? That’s all about survival. Turning these lamps on and off constantly creates a lot of thermal stress, which usually makes filaments brittle. The carbon helps them last longer. The only catch is that they take a few extra seconds to warm up compared to a clear tube, but that’s a small price to pay for a lamp that doesn’t die on you. Real-world tips for the shop Whether you’re using these in a drying tunnel or a handheld gun, they’re pretty easy to swap in. They fit right into standard curing arrays, so the wiring is a breeze. Just a heads-up: check your power supply. These lamps have a big “inrush current” the moment they kick on. If your wiring is too thin, you’ll be tripping breakers all morning. One last thing.Don’t touch the glass. Seriously. A single fingerprint leaves an oil smudge that creates a stress point. When the lamp hits operating temperature, that tiny spot can cause the whole tube to rupture. Handle them with care, and they’ll take care of you.
